Living A Simple Life-Part 61: Garden Discoveries

This year, Gen has been amazingly helpful in the garden, and has really taken ownership of gardening responsibilities (well, within the realm of a 2 1/2-year-old). She takes the care of her "babies" very seriously!
At the beginning of the growing season, after planting the seeds, we instructed her not to pick the little sprouts. We told her they were "still babies, and needed more time to grow."
Well, with a trusty watering can in hand, she loves to help water the garden, and you can hear her sweetly murmuring to her "babies," "Here you go, babies, here's your bottle... drink your water..." :) She is also quite adept at removing any slugs or weeds!
Whether it's all the sweet baby talk, the natural fertilizer, or something else, God has been providing us with lots of nourishing veggies from our garden! Lately, we've been enjoying lots of lettuce and zucchini. Gen has been thrilled with helping harvest the ripe produce, and joyfully presented us- with the awe of a new parent- her first ripe "baby" zucchini.
I actually haven't been to the Farmer's Market at all this year, other than Calvin's trip to pick up strawberries in June. Initially, it was slightly disappointing to miss this special seasonal endeavor.

Thats cute! My kids are teens but they still get excited and so do I when that first veggie is ready to pick.
